HOFFOS December 2006 Winner

HOFFOS December 2006 Winner is Michael Curran. Michael started the project NVDA.

Non-visual Desktop Access (NVDA) was started because of the need for a free open-source non-visual access solution for windows.

Written entirely in python, NVDA is a functional screen reader that allows you to use Windows with out vision, by using MSAA, the windows API, and a speech synthesizer to convey what is happening. This project is released under GNU GPL license.

It is a work in progress, and it is nowhere as functionally rich as such screen readers as Jaws and Window Eyes, but it has been pretty useful to people who can't afford the more expensive screen readers.

Michael, Congratulations for your award. On behalf of the community, I would like to thank you for all your hard-work. I do hope that your dream will come true and the blind people will have an open source solution for their needs. Keep up the good work.
